Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the first ever men's 5000m title at the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, clocking a season best 12:59.24 on the opening night of the new event. The Norwegian sat at the back of the field for most of the race, moved up over the closing laps, and then unleashed a 12.60 second final 100m to win by around 10 meters. World champion Cole Hocker took second in 13:00.05, with Parker Wolfe third in 13:00.13 and the top seven men separated by just 1.16 seconds.
