At the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Jakob Ingebrigtsen was buried in fifth place with 200 metres remaining in the men's 5000m final. He produced a last 100 metres of 12.60 seconds and crossed the line in 12:59.24 — beating reigning world champion Cole Hocker by several metres, with the top seven separated by just 1.16 seconds.
