Josh Kerr has just rewritten the mile record, and now the target is even bigger: Hicham El Guerrouj's legendary 1500m world record of 3:26.00. After running 3:42.66 in London and passing 1500m in 3:27.62, Kerr has made it clear that Project 3:25 is next. But waiting for him is Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the 1500m European record holder who has finally returned after nearly a year away with an Achilles injury.

Kerr and Ingebrigtsen have spent years pushing, provoking, and chasing each other, from the 2023 World Championships to the Paris Olympics and now toward the most iconic record still standing in the event. With Kerr targeting 3:25 and Jakob returning to the 1500m, the question is no longer whether El Guerrouj's record can fall it's who gets there first.
