Hicham El Guerrouj's 1500m world record has stood since 1998, untouched for 28 years, while his mile record finally fell this July to Josh Kerr's stunning 3:42.66 in London. Now Kerr and his fiercest rival, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, are both openly chasing the same 3:26 mark, but neither man can attempt it yet, and their rivalry, built on real animosity going back to Budapest 2023, is about to collide with a 2027 season where both could finally be fully fit at the same time. In this video, we break down Kerr's record-breaking Project 222, Ingebrigtsen's stunning comeback from Achilles surgery at the European Championships, the public feud between them, and exactly why the biggest showdown in middle-distance running is still a year away.
