Josh Kerr just delivered a stunning 1500m performance in Budapest, running 3:29.35 in his first 1500m race of 2026. With no pacemakers in the field, Kerr came through a slow opening pace, surged over the final lap, and held off Australia’s Cameron Myers, who finished just 0.33 seconds behind. The race also saw Hobbs Kessler edge Olympic champion Cole Hocker by only 0.01 seconds, while Jakob Ingebrigtsen withdrew from the 1500m after winning the 5000m.

The result adds another major chapter to Josh Kerr’s remarkable 2026 season. After his world-record mile in London and Commonwealth Games mile victory in Glasgow, Kerr returned to the 1500m and ran faster in Budapest than his 2023 world-title winning time in the same city. With Cameron Myers emerging as a serious challenger and the Kerr Ingebrigtsen matchup still unresolved, this race could become an important moment in the 1500m story.
