In 2013 Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran 7:54 for the two mile and completely shattered a world record that had stood for nearly three decades.
Before Jakob, the only man in history to break 8 minutes for the two mile was Daniel Komen, who ran 7:58.61 back in 1997.
That record stood for 27 years.
Then Jakob showed up and dropped the record all the way to 7:54.
At this level, lowering a distance world record by more than four seconds is absolutely insane.
Some people will argue that the two mile is not run as often as events like the 1500m or the 5000m.
But when you look at the names behind Jakob on the all-time list — legends like Haile Gebrselassie, Mo Farah, and Josh Kerr — nobody came close to touching Komen’s record for decades.
Until now.
So the question is simple.
Is Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 7:54 the most impressive world record in track and field?
