Is Jakob Ingebrigtsen a genetic miracle, or the result of a cold, calculated experiment? Most people think elite running is about who can suffer the most. They’re wrong. In this video, we break down the "Norwegian Method 2.0"—a training philosophy built on biological respect rather than destruction. From the brutal history of Emil Zatopek to the finger-pricking obsession of Marius Bakken, we explore how Jakob maintains a 180km/week volume without breaking.

As a Physical Therapist, I analyze the biomechanical "energy return" in his tendons and why his "Double Threshold" sessions are changing the sport forever.

Jonathan Gault and Robert Johnson make the case for defending champion John Korir as the men's favorite, revealing he's pushed his mileage past 155 miles per week. Dark horse Nicholas Kipkorir—a 58:08 half marathoner making his marathon debut—chose Boston over easier options out of love for the race. he LetsRun crew broadcasts live from Boston three days before the 2026 Boston Marathon, delivering insider intel from press conferences and agent conversations.
I Trained Like a PRO RUNNER for 35 Days

Double Threshold workouts have changed endurance running since it became popularized years ago by pro runners, but what is it, who is it for, and should normal runners try it? I decided to take the risk and give it a shot to jump start my Boston Marathon training.

For 35 days, I trained like an Olympian — running double threshold workouts twice a week while balancing a full-time job, early mornings, long commutes, and the pressure of Boston just 90 days away.

Two workouts in one day.
Controlled intensity.
Strict recovery.

The idea behind double threshold is simple: accumulate more time just below lactate threshold to build a massive aerobic engine — without completely wrecking your recovery. It’s the system used by elite runners like Jakob Ingebrigtsen and other Norwegian athletes.

But here’s the real question:

Does this training method actually work for regular runners with real jobs, real schedules, and limited recovery time?

In this video, I break down:

What double threshold training actually is

How to design a double threshold day

How to measure whether it’s working

The science behind lactate threshold and recovery

The mental and physical toll of doing it as an amateur

And whether I’d recommend it for Boston Marathon prep

Along the way, I deal with exhaustion, guilt, early alarms, winter storms, treadmill workouts, and a 10K time trial that didn’t exactly go as planned.

Did this elite method build the aerobic base I needed?
Or did I dig myself into a hole I couldn’t recover from?

If you’re training for a marathon, half marathon, 10K, or just trying to get faster, this might be the most honest breakdown of double threshold you’ll see from a non-pro.

???? Let me know in the comments:
Would you try double threshold training?
Or is this something best left to the elites?

Jakob Ingebrigtsen often stays in the middle or back of the pack early in 5000m championship races instead of leading. This isn’t because he’s trying to lose, but because running behind others conserves energy by avoiding wind resistance and unnecessary pacing effort. In long-distance track events, this is a common elite strategy to stay efficient and controlled during the early and middle laps.

Near the final 400–800 meters, he accelerates sharply using his strong finishing speed (“kick”) to overtake the field and win. This approach is a deliberate race strategy designed to maximize stamina and timing, not manipulation like the badminton incident, and it’s one of the key reasons he’s been so successful in major competitions.

Two-time Olympic 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will skip the early Diamond League season as he recovers from Achilles surgery, with his return timeline still uncertain.

What we know:
– No races in May or June — including the Bislett Games in Oslo on June 10, which he also missed last year
– Ingebrigtsen underwent Achilles surgery this winter after the injury hampered his entire 2025 outdoor season
– His agent Daniel Wessfeldt says the prognosis is good, with the key factor being how training progresses in late April and May
